Get Out & About for the Week of October 14, 2012

By Ohsocynthia @OhSoCynthia
One of the things I love about Dallas, is that there is no shortage of things to do: educational, cultural, culinary, charitable, fashion-oriented, spiritual... you want it, Dallas serves it up! Every week there are literally dozens of options to entertain and enlighten yourself or create moments that you'll carry with you for a lifetime. Here are my highlights for this week:

Attend the third annual Purses With a Purpose event hosted by Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater Dallas on Oct. 16 from 6 – 9 p.m. at The Samuel Lynne Galleries in the Dallas Arts District. This event will feature a silent and live Action plus an Elegant Wine Pull, Jewelry, High Fashion Bags and a Napa Valley Wine Country Tour. Proceeds from the silent and live auction event will underwrite CCCS community outreach and financial education for low income women at area domestic violence shelters, legal clinics, prison systems, child care centers, as well as job re-entry and training programs. The event is meant to help close the financial literacy gap for women – especially low income women. Tickets are $50 each and you can get more information at http://www.cccs.net/education/pwap.asp
Join DFW Style Daily for a screening of "Rear Window" under the stars during Mockingbird Station’s “Hitchcocktober” celebration on October 18th.
Meet on the Level Two Mezzanine near the Angelika Film Center at 7:30, and like all great Hitchcock flicks, this event has a twist. Prizes will be awarded for the best glam p.j. looks as they indulge in one of their favorite films to celebrate "Hitchcocktober".
No RSVP required and screening is free.
Celebrity chefs will join Chef John Tesar on Friday, October 19th, 2012 for the fourth annual Burgers & Burgundy event benefitting The Dallas Chapter of DIFFA (Design Industry Foundation Fighting AIDS).   Each chef has been tasked with the challenge to serve up the best burger sliders and compliment them with the burgundy of their choice. Wines and specialty cocktails will also be available. Funds raised from the event will go towards DIFFA/Dallas’s mission of serving those who are affected by AIDS and HIV across North Texas. The night will be accompanied with tunes mixed by DJ Jennifer Miller and Paul Paredes.  Tickets for Burgers & Burgundy are $75 per person, and VIP tickets are available for $150, both available at http://burgers2012.eventbrite.com.
Another great event happening this same evening will be the 3d annual Casino Night fundraiser benefiting Dress for Success Dallas, and it will take place at the Park Place Volvo Showroom.
From 6:30 until 10:00 p.m., guests will have the chance to enjoy a variety of casino games, live entertainment from musicians and performers and raffle prizes, with proceeds benefiting Dress for Success Dallas’ women’s programs.
The Park Place Volvo Showroom is located at 3515 Inwood Road, Dallas, Texas 75209. Tickets start at just $35 and you can purchase them or get more info on this event at http://dfsdallas.org/a-night-in-monte-carlo-sponsorship-levels/
