One of the things I love about Dallas, is that you can never be bored - unless you just want to be. from cultural exhibitions to live music, fashion shows to charity galas - Dallas has something for everyone! Here are a few event highlights for the week of January 27, 2013:
The fifth annual SOUP’S ON! Stewpot Alliance Luncheon and Art Sale will be held on Tuesday January 29, 2013 at new Omni Dallas featuring youth advocate, business leader, Rhodes Scholar and Army combat veteran Wes Moore.
His first book, The Other Wes Moore, became an instant New York Times best seller. He is also the host of Beyond Belief on the Oprah Winfrey Network. Wes believes, “public service does not have to be an occupation, but must be a way of life.” The reception and art sale begins at 11a.m. with the luncheon at 12 p.m. The Omni Dallas is located at 555 South Lamar. Sponsorships and priority tables now available. For more information and to purchase tickets, go to www.SoupsOnDallas.org.
Their new world tour show puts you in charge. Titled "You Write The Rules", this format lets YOU decide the new rule they add to Globetrotters basketball, a rule that could affect the outcome of the game!!! Attendees will be able to get autographs and photographs with their favorite players after the show! Tickets start at just $20 and can be purchased at http://www.americanairlinescenter.com/events-and-tickets/event_details.php?eid=2286
Even though our beloved Cowboys will not be IN the game - we have to talk about the biggest event in sports – the Superbowl! There are some fun parties and game-watching events around town and I’m going to run down a few of the best:
Granada Theater is showing the Super Bowl on its big screen with plenty of seating, concert sound and no cover. Their chef will be serving brisket tacos, and there will be specials on buckets of beer. 3524 Greenville Ave., Dallas. 214-824-9933. www.granadatheater.com
The Quarter in Uptown will be serving all Texas-made liquor and spirit brands at 50% off all day. Gameday watchers can also graze an all-you-can-eat nacho bar and partake in $3 shot specials. You can see why they are one of my favorite clients. A nacho bar... hello!
Dave & Buster's new location on Central Expressway in Dallas has HDTVs throughout the 44,000-square-foot building and has three 130-inch screens inside its very popular sports bar. For the Super Bowl, the sports bar is open for walk-in guests, and there is also a watch party for $25 per person in the restaurant's private event room with a buffet-style meal, two drinks and a D&B Power Card to use in the midway. 9450 North Central Expressway, Dallas. 214-361-5553. www.daveandbusters.com
