I’m a sucker for any track with an introductory riff that grabs you from the get-go and carries through the entire song, so “Heartbeat” by Satellite Stories had me hooked after a few seconds. “Heartbeat” ironically inches its way into the hearts of listeners during the chorus, equipped with yearning jabs of sentimental pining while remaining delightfully repetitive and rhythmic. Satellite Stories has accomplished a tough task by taking a tender topic and having it somehow end up sounding sunny side up. The music video presents vocalist and guitarist Esa Mankinen sauntering down an empty road bearing a perpetually reflective and sorrowed demeanor. Despite the feature of light snow and what seems to be a ruthless wind, viewers can feel the cold rooted in the song’s subject rather than the red-nosed weather. The hazy and scattered overlay of video shots pairs well with the lost and achy tone of “Heartbeat”. Four-man indie pop group Satellite Stories hails from Oulu, Finland and expects the release of new album Vagabonds by March 2015. You can hear more on their SoundCloud.
