The Beckley by Melissa signature collection represents the best of LA fashion. Beetle printed silk separates faintly resembling summer florals perfect represent our city's style aesthetics-an equal infusion of whimsy and ready-to-wear art. And then there's my personal favorite from the collection, an iridescent baby blue mod coat time lapsed from the set of "The Who" music video. The collection's contrast between modern prints and retro silhouettes captures my imagination. Aside from the house brand, the boutique genre bends in curating a fabulous mixed roster of some of my favorite designers. Contemporary pieces from 3.1 Phillip Lim and Camilla Marc are racked next to conceptually indie brand Opening Ceremony. Hard-edged jewelry pieces from Eddie Borgo are displayed alongside the softer gold coated links of Maya Brenner. My summer "wear everyday" shoe brands Cornetti and Soludos stand alongside "wear to impress" Camilla Skovgaard vixen heels. The store is an impressive showcase of the incongruent diversity of the LA shopping experience.
I love my city's fluidity. Where else can you go from a graffitied back alley posterized with Lindsay Lohan mugshots to a fabulous sunset view perched atop a balcony in the Hollywood Hills in just one outfit change? That's a story worth telling.
