Before the hike, it took me a good fifteen minutes to summon up the courage to leave the car in my Lorna Mae sports bra as I'm never so scantily clad in public. Feeling exposed scares the hell out of me. Imperfections are on display. Judgement would be passed. And I'd have to suck in my stomach for like two hours. As I sat there in my car frozen and debilitated by the combing of fears, I suddenly realized I was being vapid. "Get over yourself! It's not about you. It's about the fresh air, the exercise, and the fabulous view! Live in the moment." So I did and got lost admiring the beauty of my city instead of losing myself in my body image.
I earned my dinner after the hike so I put on a gray tank, switched out my pants for a navy skirt, layered on a gray cardigan, and dressed up the outfit with Mary Jane platforms and headed to Eagle Rock for authentic Mexican food. Huarache Azteca is on every foodie's list. They're famous for their huarache, which is fried tortilla topped with meat, sauce, and cheese. It's not my favorite as I much prefer their amazing chicharron (pork rinds) tacos and lengua (tongue) burritos drenched in sauce and cheese. I ate to my heart's content. And I've got quite a big heart.
No glitz, no glamour, no amuse bouche. Yet it was quite simply one of the best Sundays I've had in a very long time.
