EXCERPT
She clutched her stomach with her left hand and a loud snap sounded from beneath Master Vetera’s hands as he gripped her right arm. Fear and pain poured from Kate into Lanclor, and he rushed to her side, holding her down so she wouldn’t hurt herself or others. "Kate, it’s all right. Master Vetera is healing your wounds, and we’re safe in camp. Let him do his work."
She stopped struggling and her eyes closed while she gripped Lanclor’s arm with her left hand. He glanced around and saw the group of Earthlings looking their way with their guns slung on their shoulders. One of them lay upon the ground with bloodied bandages surrounding his chest. Some type of human healer held his hand to the wound, but it continued to darken the bandages.
"Thalcalor. Nikton."
"Yes, Sir Lanclor." They stepped toward him and Lady Kathryn.
"Heal the Earthlings without alarming them if possible. Perhaps they’ll realize we’re not their enemies."
Thalcalor and Nikton nodded, then drew their swords and placed them upon the ground. The soldiers stiffened at their approach, but made no move to ready their weapons. The two knights slowly knelt beside the soldier with the chest wound, and Thalcalor reached out to grip the soldier’s arm. Lanclor turned back to Kathryn and saw Master Vetera release her once-broken right wing. The sounds of surprise from the Earthling group brought a smile to Lanclor’s face. Enemies don’t heal your wounds.
"She’ll need to repair her armor when she wakes up." Master Vetera broke into his thoughts. "And she’s not going to like the fact that her scabbard is empty." Lanclor stared at her scabbard, shaking his head at their blunder. Her sword likely remained on the battlefield where she fell. He never thought to look for it.
