Garage sale - Paris: a budget designers heaven!
SO while I continue work on my collections, I also spend a lot of time looking for inspiration and it came in the form of a huge Garage sale on the banks of the Seine on Sunday afternoon.
Whats great about such events is the volume of unwanted clothing and fabric just waiting to be transformed into a high end piece of fashion. There were many vintage military jackets, fur pieces, leather items and printed silk scarves, as well as buttons, trims and even threads, at bargain basement prices. These unique pieces can be bought and worn by the budget fashionista or cut open and customized or transformed into dresses, corsets and all manner of modern fashions giving it new life.
Personally I bought a plain, soft leather skirt for just 5 euros which I will open up and use to create a top. The volume of leather in the skirt would cost me around 60 euros from the tannery, so a real bargain & I assure you that you will not recognize it once i get through with it!
So any budding students or young designers just starting out, open up your imagination and pay a visit to your local junk sale, your 2014 collection is just waiting for you!
