Technically, the 14/15 TV season ends when the 15/16 Upfront begins. I guess we have to keep that stake in the ground for now. So...with everyone painting portraits of doom and gloom for network TV, I bet you're wondering how it actually did this season. Well, the numbers are still being crunched but here's some info I found to start us off:
NBC came out on top against A1849 for the 2nd year in a row. They averaged a 2.4 for primetime but this includes the Super Bowl so keep that in mind. Sunday Night Football was TV's number one primetime program and The Voice stayed consistent.
CBS came in a close 2nd against RA1849 which surprised me. Of course they are the winners, big time in total audience for the 7th year in a row because gagillions still watch NCIS and Big Bang.
ABC was the only network to improve its A18-49 ratings and it would have finished first if we took out sports from everyone's lineup. ABC had 4 shows in the Top 10 (Modern Family, Scandal, How to Get Away With Murder and Grey's Anatomy)
FOX has Empire...that's pretty much it. Sure it's the biggest show in years, but we know the deal with eggs and baskets.
THE SHOWS Game of Thrones
I really thought that since it was a holiday weekend, nothing juicy at all would happen on Game of Thrones, man was I wrong! I don't even know where to begin. Jon Snow's gone so Sam's just got Gilly to hang out with at the wall. Some dudes tried to rape her and Sam got the crap beaten out of himself trying to defend her but then one of the direwolves showed up and the rapists ran away. Where do you think that wolf was? Just hanging out in the hallway? Gilly cleaned Sam up and had her way with him. Pretty sure that goes against the oath he took, but come on, Jon Snow broke that rule a while ago. It's cold and scary on that wall. I won't tell if you won't. Rape seems to be the norm in this show. Sansa's getting raped every night by that psychopath of a husband. She tried to get Theon to help her but he went right to Ramsey and tattled on Sansa. I thought for sure he would have broken but he's still stuck in Reekland. What WILL get him to break? I hope something soon, I want Ramsey to suffer THE WORST death in TV history. Dani had sex with the guy from Nashville and he really wants to marry her but she's just not that into him I guess. She went to watch some brutal fighting and guess who showed up? Jorah! First he was wearing a helmet so she didnt' know it was him. He killed everyone and then the big reveal. She was pissed but then he told her he brought her a gift and in walks...DUN, DUN, DUNNNNNN Tyrion Lannister! Yes! FINALLY!!!!!! Ya think that would be the juiciest part of the show right? I've been waiting and waiting for that to happen, but even better...Cersei thought she had all her ducks in a row, didn't she? Margery's in prison, Tommen's under control, she's hanging out with that freaky religious dude, gossiping and chatting away and then...she gets thrown into a cell herself! Now what? Jamie's gone, Tyrion's gone. All the Lannisters are locked up! Who'll save her now?
Nurse Jackie
Well, at least now we know why Gloria was having SUCH a hard time with the Jackie thing. She's been through it all before. Her son was an addict too. No wonder why she's so hurt, disappointed and angry with Jackie. It makes total sense now. It took Monk 2 episodes, one dinner and a bunch of drinks before Gloria revealed this big news and that she has some mad fish deboning skills. For some reason, I don't love Tony Shaloub. I never have. I feel like he IS his character and is really an odd, neurotic guy in person or something. I don't know why even that should bother me, but I really can't warm up to him at all. Jackie found out about "Pill Mills" from Tony/Monk and got Eddie to go for one last drug deal. Eddie and I said the exact same thing at the exact same time. "Last big scores, never pan out well" this one appears to though. 22 G's is a success in my book and it's enough to pay off Jackie's lawyer and maybe pay for Eddie and Jackie's wedding. (As long as it's something low key and not a big shindig at The Pierre) Yep...they're getting married. I can't believe it, but, I actually like the idea. Nice way to wrap their storyline up. They'll either go off and start again in some other hospital, or they'll become even bigger drug dealers, find Nancy Botwin somewhere in Colorado and merge together for a new show called "Crunch & Munch"
THE OTHER STUFF
-So how does it make sense that nobody watched Red Nose Day or Tweeted about it but it supposedly raised 21MM bucks? Fundraiser results: a .8 RA18-49 and the funniest Game of Thrones mockumentary ever. I guess the small audience was a pretty philanthropic, upscale bunch, huh? NBC's probably happy either way, which means we'll probably see Red Nose Day 2016 this time next year.
-Joel McHale's going to be hosting the ESPYS this year. Anyone remember who hosted it last year for some bonus points?
-One of the Duggar's is apparently a child molester. TLC pulled 19 Kids and Counting. Didn't the same thing happen to Honey Boo Boo? Maybe more pre-show vetting needs to take place before just throwing these freaky families on TV. I've never seen the Duggar's. I'm not a fan of kids in general, 19 of um? Count me out!
-It's not a done deal…yet…but now that Time Warner and Comcast aren't merging, there's a new player…Charter Communications and man do they seem to have a boatload of dough. They're apparently able to pay $195 a share in cash and stock for Time Warner I didn't do the math but it's around $55 billion. Bright House Networks, a smaller cable company will be merged into the combined Charter-Time Warner Cable too. So how is this deal allowed and the other isn't?Tuesday's Trivia Question: As I'm sure you heard over the weekend, Anne Meara passed away at the age of 85. Anne was not only Ben Stiller's mom, she was Jerry Stiller's partner for over 60 years. This week's theme will be devoted to partners in her honor. Here we go: Name the show and Olivia Benson's first partner.
