Frugal Tip: Lettuce in a Jar

By Catherine Mcdiarmid-Watt @frugalfreebies
I have been eating a lot of salad lately on the LC/HC Ketogenic diet - I have lost 40 lbs!
So I find myself eating a lot of lettuce, but hate that it goes brown so quickly.
I wish I could try this tip, but I don't have a vacuum-pack machine.
Oh, but wait! She has links to articles on how to do this WITHOUT a vacuum-pack machine!
One article uses a Ziplock hand pump.

Questions and thoughts from readers:
Daynielle Jessica posted: REALLY frugal tip, use a Ziploc and a straw to suck the air out and seal!
The woman who wrote the original post said she tried that - the lettuce ended up completely squashed and bruised.
Barb Sullivan posted: The bags are probably special to use the pump?
This video shows how to use the Ziplock pump with a canning jar or even an old spaghetti jar - no special bags needed!
