Frugal Friday: Ross, Dress for Less!

Posted on the 07 October 2016 by Krickeyb

Last week I was SO excited to find two pieces of clothing I have been searching for all over town. The thing is… I refuse to pay more than $15 for dresses. I don’t see the point in spending more. Why? I will wear it only a few times!

Usually, I find a lot of great clothes (for affordable prices) at Marshalls and TJMaxx. Recently, though, I could not find what I was looking for there. This Autumn, I have fallen in love with turtle neck dresses paired with a great pair of boots. I have MANY boots, but none that covered my scars completely.

I know you may be thinking, “Why cover your scars!? Embrace them!” Lol, easier said than done. Right now, I am not comfortable enough with them to just flaunt them. So, I hide them. When the time is right, I will bare it all. I promise!

Anyway, back to the frugal finds! With very low expectations, I decided to visit Ross and see what I could find. If I couldn’t find what I wanted at Marshalls and TJMaxx, how could I find what I want at Ross? Well, folks, the joke was on me! I found what I wanted AND MORE at Ross. I am so so happy that I decided to go for it, despite my reservations.

When I entered Ross, I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness, organization, and selection. I want to mention that I visited right when they opened on a Thursday. *TIP: Go right when they open on a weekday. Avoid the weekend at ALL costs!* I immediately looked for the dress section and within seconds, I found the exact dress I had in mind. Of course, I checked the price first. BOOM… there it was… $11.99. YES! Totally worth it. I threw that baby into the cart and went on my way.

Next, I decided to just check out the shoe section. I rarely find shoes I love for a good price, especially boots. I usually have to wait until the end of the season and pry through the clearance section. This time? Totally different story. Knee high boots typically run for $70+. It is unlikely to find a nice pair of knee high boots for a decent price (especially at the start of the season).

By complete chance, I found a pair of boots lying on the floor. I laughed because I despise when people just leave items on the floor. As someone who used to work retail, I always try to pick things up off the floor and place them where they belong. The boots were a gorgeous taupe/nude color and I noticed they were taller than usual… could these be THE boots I have been looking for? YUP!

I ripped off my tennis shoes and tried these beauties on… they were a perfect fit. The only “bad” thing was that they had a relatively high heel. I do not mind heels AT ALL! I welcome heels, always. The problem is, with my recent surgery, I am still in recovery mode. Heels are tough for me right now. I figured I could wear them eventually, so I couldn’t pass them up. The next obstacle… the price. I was expecting them to cost $79.99 or more. Other boots nearby ranged from $39 to $80. I, hesitantly, flipped the left boot over to see the price sticker… *drum roll please*… $29.99!

WHAT!? I couldn’t believe it. Ladies and Gentlemen, I found the boots I have been searching for at a price I never would have expected. Of course, I threw those babies in the cart. I had the perfect outfit for Philadelphia. What a find.

I wore this outfit in Philly (as you can see in the photos). But, I want to say that I only could wear the boots for a very short period of time… like ten minutes. I only recently got rid of the walking boot, so it has been an interesting journey getting back to normal me. I had to ditch the boots after a quick photo shoot. To be honest, if this were November, I may have been able to last longer. Dang it! They still were incredible and totally worth the purchase.

I am so thrilled with these finds. In total, I spent only $42! (Not including tax.) Those boots will be worn A LOT. That dress will be worn until it falls apart. Ugh. So thrilled with my frugal find.

One last tid bit before I leave you all. The purse, pictured above, is the one I mentioned from last week’s post. It is the Steve Madden purse that I found at Nordstrom Rack. Normally, I wouldn’t care what purse I wear, as long as it matches. Since I already had that one, though, I thought it fit the look perfectly.

Completely unwarranted life lesson from a married woman #33: Get the boots. Always.
