Friday’s Fab Find: Earbags

By Bridgetteraes @BridgetteRaes

Winter hair can be a problem. Dry heat can make it poofy and crispy. In really cold places, hats or ear muffs are vital. But they can mess up your already stressed hair. For me it's difficult to find comfortable hats or ear muffs. I have a big head <Insert joke here>. But, really, I have a large skull. Most hats don't fit my head. Ear muffs are uncomfortably tight. Knit headbands work but they mess up my hair. It seems like the only option is frost bite.

Earbags

There is another option. Ear Bags (website here) are bandless ear warmers wrap around your ear and stay on snugly and comfortably. With two soft layers of fleece, lined with Thinsulate for warmth and insulation, Earbags keep the warmth in and the cold out.

History of Earbags

The 1994 Olympic Winter Games were held in Lillehammer, Norway, and it was freezing cold. A Swedish man, Tom Natvig, was one of thousands who went to watch the events, which were mostly held outdoors. After two days, Natvig found his ears increasingly colder than the rest of his head, and set off downtown to find something to keep his ears warm.

"Do you have anything just for the ears, something without a band?" Natvig asked store owners. Disappointed by their answers, and the selection of dowdy earmuffs on the counter, Natvig's frustration sparked the idea: a bandless ear muff.

Flex the bag to open it and place on your ear. The bags are lightweight and comfortable. They can easily be worn under helmets and stay in place so you don't have to worry about them falling off during jogging or any other activity. Small, they can be easily tucked into a purse or pocket when you take them off. They come in several different fabrics and more than a dozen colors.
