Black and Red cocktail
St. Patrick’s Day on a Friday? The perfect time for a cocktail. And though it’s not green, a Black and Red cocktail is a quick and easy drink to serve up to toast the holiday (and the after 5:00pm hour).
The Black and Red is a variation of a Manhattan with the key difference being the use of an Irish Whiskey. Bushmills, Jameson, whichever brand suits your taste so long as it’s Irish. The drink makes for a wonderful apéritif or digestif to sip.
What you’ll need: Irish Whiskey, Sweet Vermouth, and Bitters.
In a shaker over cracked ice, pour in 1 part sweet vermouth to 2 parts Irish Whiskey. Add in a couple dashes of bitters. Shake and then strain into a rocks glass. No garnish necessary.
How I like it: For this one, I used Irish Mist with its honey flavor for a sweeter take on this cocktail. For proportions, I used 2 ounces of whiskey to one ounce of sweet vermouth. And I added a few more dashes of Angostura bitters than a mere two.
Sláinte and drink responsibly!
