FOX Trims ‘Mulaney’, But It’s Not Cancelled… Yet

FOX originally had lined up 16 episodes of Mulaney. That number is now going to be 13 as FOX has cut back the amount of episodes they want of the struggling sitcom. Mulaney has had a cancellation target on its back for some time now, but no show has actually been cancelled yet…on any network… which is highly unprecedented.

FOX is obviously avoiding being the first network to make a cancellation. Utopia’s two nights were trimmed to one, and last week said they were committed to airing the full run of Gracepoint (which is a limited series, and would never receive a “back nine” order). That would leave Red Band Society as the only question mark, except that it’s produced by Steven Spielberg, and you can’t make a Steven Spielberg produced show the first cancellation of the season. I think that’s in the rule book.

My non-Utopia prediction has always been Selfie and Manhattan Love Story, and despite a recent script order, I stand by that. Both Last Resort and 666 Park Avenue got script orders and then got axed.
