Here's my fourth painting of an abstract flower, each one on an 18" x 24" canvas. I painted the background on this one a pale peach, let it dry, and then began painting the petals. I chose a cadmium yellow light for the top left and bottom right, and a light red mixture for the others.
As in the previous three, I worked in a free, painterly style, not worrying about imitating an actual flower. For contrast and shading, I added white, indian yellow, tan, dark red, and orange. Then I used a palette knife to strengthen some of the colors.
Final touches were the emerald and light green vines in the background, as well as lines in hookers green and alizarin crimson. I think these four florals will work well together as a set.
