Former Sri Lanka Ruggerite Gayan Weeraratne in New Role

Former Kandy SC skipper cum Sri Lanka national rugby player Gayan Weeraratne has been appointed as Trainer of the Sri Lankan national cricket emerging team for the England tour which begins this week.

Weeraratne a fabulous center three quarter played for Kingswood College Kandy also Captained the champion Kandy Sports Club outfit and represented the Sri Lanka national sevens team and the fifteen a side team with distinction.

During this rugby career, he maintained a high standard of fitness during his illustrious rugby career and has been richly rewarded for being appointed as the Trainer of Sri Lanka’s emerging cricket team which is completely a different role for this national rugby player.

He and his younger brother Roshan Weeraratne led Kandy Sports Club and had the rare distinction of leading them to an inter-club ‘A’ Division League Rugby title.
