A police officer who earlier had vacated his service has been arrested with a 12-bore shotgun by a group of officers from the Wariyapola Police during a raid on an illegal liquor distillery.
The suspect had left the service on January 4, 2009. His house had been raided following information that there is an alcohol racket going on in his house. A senior police officer said that instead of illegal alcohol, the police had found a 12-bore firearm in a room of the house.
