An Indian national who allegedly stole a handbag from a girl at Galle Face green on Sunday was arrested by the officers of the Fort Police. The girl and her boyfriend had apprehended the suspect and had called some police officers who were nearby.
The police said a group of foreigners numbering around 70 had then surrounded the police officers and had asked them to release the suspect. Later the police had found out that the suspect and the group of foreign national are construction workers working at the Port City project. However, police had been unable to find the girl’s handbag. The 40-year-old suspect is to be produced before courts.
