One of the great features of Ford's new BroncoWhen it debuted, it was the wild-looking "donut doors" that featured on the concept two-door version. These body-colored beauties were something of a cross between a tubular door and the doors of the McLaren Sennaand they upset people - including us.
Unfortunately, Ford confirmed to CarBuzz on Monday that the donut doors would not make the leap to production Bronco. Why? Security, natch. If these doors were bolted to the vehicle directly by Ford, they would be subject to stringent automotive safety standards for side impacts. As you can imagine, a large hole in the door would likely compromise that department.
So what kind of doors can you get for your Bronco? The good news is that there is indeed a choice. You can stick with your normal, solid doors as they are factory fitted, or you can purchase official Ford accessory tubular doors that, when installed by a dealer, will not be subject to side impact crash standards. Hooray for loopholes I guess? There is also the option of walking completely without a door. something Jeep owners have been doing for eons.
Even if the donut doors don't make it into production, there are plenty of other things out of the concepts.
