Food Review: Gerry’s Kitchen, Stratford, London

Gerry's Kitchen

Location

Gerry's Bar & Kitchen is located beside Stratford Circus near the Stratford Centre about a five-minute walk from Stratford Station in east London.

About

Part of the Theatre Royal Stratford East development it's named after the theatre's Managing Director Gerry Raffles who died in 2002. The area was spruced up for the 2012 Olympic Games, with the cafe being a result of this recent investment.

Decor

Shabby chic with a mixture of sofas, dining tables and chairs throughout the spacious venue.

Vibe

Very casual and studious. While we were there a tutorial was taking place. Many of the visitors were sitting with a coffee and a laptop (free 3 hour WiFi is provided).

Menu

We ordered a falafel wrap £4, Cheese pastry £3, a flat white £2.30 and some
Ginger beer £3.25.

All were delivered to our table quickly after ordering. The flat white was strong and had a good frothy head.

The falafel wrap contained fresh mint and tomato to offset the dry falafel.

We were given the option to have the cheese pastry warm or hot, we opted for the latter and it was very like a Greek pastry/bürek with smooth, creamy feta style cheese surrounded by puff pastry which was rather filling.

Our order came to £12.55. Gerry's Kitchen is also licensed, stocking a number of beers from Adnam's craft range along with some cider and wine.

Overall good value in a relaxed environment but the toilets could do with some TLC (eg. dodgy cubicle door in the gents).

TL;DR

+ Good location
+ Pleasant atmosphere
+ Good food
+ Free WiFi

- Toilets need some TLC
