Chompsky are back, this time cooking up flavours (and of course sounds from Dixieland) at the Drury St bar and kitchen pop-up (just around the corner from Drury St itself where the Booths snooker/pool hall used to be), serving New Orleans/Louisiana-inspired dishes featuring Gumbo and Jambalaya. Add some Williams Brothers Ceilidh beer or a cocktail and you will soon be tapping your toes along to the Dixie jazz.

Mrs Foodie loves an oyster but Mr Foodie not so much (quote: “slimey little buggers”) so three were ordered to keep her sweet. As well as the jambalaya and gumbo stuffed peppers.
Inside chompsky food pop up.
Our food arrived quickly and with accompaniments of Worcestershire and hot sauce we dug in.
Rockefeller Oysters
Rockefeller Oysters grilled with spinach, parsley and a cheese crust – 3 for £5. From the 1840’s New Orleans come these cheesey meaty bites. We could easily have eaten another 3 as Mr Foodie (recently converted) ate 2 of the 3! They weren’t the cold, sea-watery choking hazard he was accustom to so he enjoyed these!
Rockefeller Oysters
Next up Shrimp Jambalaya at £6 – rice mixed with veggies and topped with shrimp. Spain meets France in this paella-like dish with a juicy tomato sauce but it was a bit tame for Mr Foodie so he added some of the red hot cayenne pepper sauce to give it a kick.
Shrimp Jambalaya
Gumbo stuffed bell peppers for £5. Bell peppers stuffed with sweetcorn and red beans, topped with cheese and roasted. Not your usual meaty based gumbo, but a thick sweetcorn and bean filled pepper.
Gumbo filled bell peppers
We couldn’t ignore the powdered sugar beignets at £2.50. Fluffy bumps of pastry, deep-fried but light and served hot with powdered sugar. Again, a taste of France and Spain here as they are quite similar to Churros. Another round of these please!
Beignets
We also had 2 soft drinks each and received 10% off our bill for tweeting about it (mentioning it on Facebook gets the same discount) so total cost was £17.50. Check out the Chompsky Dixieland page for more info – the last day of the pop-up is tomorrow.
