Afternoon tea in Belfast City Centre
Afternoon Tea is always a good idea, and even better when you are on your holidays! A treat afternoon out with the mothership meant a visit to Maldron Hotel in the city centre of Belfast.
It's a modern hotel with not much charm to be honest. Clean, tidy and functional. The Grain & Grill area felt like somewhere to plug in your laptop and do some work whilst inhaling coffee, not somewhere to linger for a decadent afternoon tea.
Menu
A selection of teas were available, we picked an Irish Breakfast and Earl Grey.
Food
In no time at all the food arrived. We were only one of two tables in the restaurant, so the kitchen had no pressure.
An interesting display with a variety of sandwiches including salmon, tuna mayo, cheese, and a chicken and bacon mixture. Served alongside sweet treats and scones.
The dainty sandwiches lacked flavour, weak tasting tuna, lots of mayo in the chicken and bacon mix...that kind of experience. 😕
The scones resembled mini balls, no scone shape to them at all. Also disappointingly served with canned cream... no clotted cream or freshly whipped cream here.
Disappointment continued with average tasting petit fours. Nothing stood out as a must eat with the selection looking uninspiring.
Afternoon tea at a Maldron Hotel Belfast City Centre is £19.00 per person, or £24.00 per person with some fizz.
Verdict
Underwhelming. We both agreed a sandwich deal at Greggs would have been tastier! Lack of flavour with the sandwiches, the fillings seemed to be budget versions. Disappointing fresh cream - from an aerosol can really should be a last resort for anywhere. Overall, for the price of £19.00 per person this was overpriced and lacked substance. The service was friendly and we were not hurried or pressured to eat quickly. Toilets were clean.
TL;DR
+ friendly service
- poor cream quality
- underwhelming
