Gnom Gnom Gnom
After many years popping up here and there in Glasgow, with a west end food truck along the way, Chomsky (who we always thought should've been called 'Nom Chomsky') finally opened a permanent place in Prenzlauer Berg, sorry we mean Strathbungo in the Southside of Glasgow. If you look closely you can just about make out the name 'Gnom' above the door.
Inside
A trio of samovar-type things are perched on one wall with a selection of foodie books on the other, including Yotam Ottolenghi's Sweet; Martin Morales' Andina: heart of Peruvian food; Daniel Doherty's Duck and Waffle, oh and Deliciously Ella - they were doing so well up until that point. 😂
We squeezed into our seat at the wall as the tables are a bit too close together.
Menu
Food
First up, Cilbir Turkish Eggs (£7). Two poached eggs, garlic mint yoghurt, smoked chilli browned butter, pomegranate with sourdough bread - it said 'soldiers' on the menu so if these are soldiers then they're not in great shape! 😂
This was a pleasant mix of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern flavours with two perfect poached eggs.
For dessert they do French toast ice cream sandwiches, there's a choice of two and we ordered both of the smaller sizes (£5 each).
Crispy bananas
Gnom was impressive, the food was well-presented and tasty. Staff were friendly with orders taken and food delivered promptly, the atmosphere was relaxed with music from zero7 playing. Toilets were also clean. Our main criticism is that if you're sitting against the wall there's too many tables to make it a comfortable experience as we had to move our table to get in and out and you can hear the conversations on either side of you.
TL;DR
+ Gnom indeed!
- tables too close together
