Following Literary Awards

Posted on the 20 September 2024 by Snapdragon

September is a busy month for literary events and book awards. Are there any award-winning books or authors you’re eager to read, or any forthcoming book events you intend to go to or cover on your blog? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

I do not care for prestige awards in entertainment. Awards are not about merits. They mean the person getting it has the “correct” politics.

I am slowly reading through the Newbury books until 2020, because that an even hundred years of the award. I only reading through the 2023 Cybils awards for graphic novels because someone said I should be a judge. When I look into the judging guidelines, I find that they are not on merit. Instead part of the guidelines call for judging the color of the author’s skin and if they look like the characters they write. Who knows what happens to the authors that write animal characters.

From what other people have said the Hugo recent awards are not as good. I would like to read The Fifth Season. It is odd that the author of that book keeps winning the Hugo.

So mostly no I do not keep up with literary awards.

As for going to book events. I just move to a new city. While I have off most weekends. I’m too busy getting things situated to look for book events.
