Have you been noticing how many dresses have tie-fronts? With tie-front tops being popular for several seasons, it makes sense that the trend would eventually make its way to dresses. Personally, I like it. It's finally a trend that can work for a variety of body shapes. Tie-front dresses delicately shape the waist without being too tight, which is perfect for hourglass figures. Have a tummy? The tie-front covers the stomach without being shapeless. Straight up and down? If you don't have a shapely figure but want to create one, try a tie-front dress. This is why I like this trend, it works well for many, even maternity.
Five Ways to Wear a Tie-Front Dress
To give you some ideas how to style a tie-front dress, I put some outfits together using this style from Tahari. Unfortunately, the burgundy color I am using has sold out in a matter of days (darn you, Nordstrom anniversary sale) but it is still available in black.
Outfit #1
For this first look, I styled the dress with very versatile tan peep toe bootie sandals from Vince Camuto, a novelty bag from Louise et Cie and pendant from Stella & Dot. With the tie front and key hole at the neckline, I selected a more subtle necklace to avoid too much distraction.
Outfit #2
The length of this dress lends itself well to both flats and heels. For a dressy casual weekend look, I styled the dress with flat ankle strap metallic sandals from Kenneth Cole. I finished the outfit with a grey crossbody bag from ALLSAINTS and silver drop earrings from Halogen. Statement earrings work better with a tie front dress than overly ornate necklaces do.
Outfit #3
Wanting to play with color, I styled this tie-front dress with a pair of soft blue block heel sandals and finished the look with a colorblocked handbag from Tory Burch and simple stud earrings by Freida Rothman.
Outfit #4
This next look I styled with novelty flats in snakeskin from Sam Edelman. Working tonally, I added this bag from Boden and finished the outfit with a lariat from Nordstrom.
Outfit #5
Lastly, I styled this dress with olive using these sandals from Talbots. I finished the outfit with a burgundy bag fro Proenza Schouler and green earrings from Kate Spade.
