Five Things to Do to Get Whiter Teeth

By Djridings @fivethingsnow

Do your teeth sparkle when you smile? If your teeth aren’t as white as you’d like them to be, there are ways to remove stains in the comfort of your own bathroom. While nothing you do at home will give you professional results, you can easily lighten your teeth by several shades without expensive treatments.

1. Brush Regularly

Get in the habit of brushing your teeth regularly. You should brush your teeth, at a minimum, twice a day. Brush when you wake up and before you go to bed. Brush your teeth after meals and after you’ve put anything in your mouth that can stain your teeth. Coffee, tea, dark soda, cigarettes, tobacco, and some fruits can alter the appearance of your teeth. Brushing will remove the discoloration before it sets in.

2. Whitening Strips

Whitening strips are available at your local drug store and are easy to use. When used in accordance with the instructions on the package, you can remove several layers of staining. There are several brands of whitening products available; experiment with a few and use the one that you like the best.

3. Peroxide

There’s no getting around the terrible taste of peroxide, but rinsing with a three-percent hydrogen peroxide solution can help to remove stains from your teeth. Rinse your mouth with peroxide for two minutes once daily before you brush your teeth. Follow your brushing with mouth wash to get rid of any leftover peroxide taste.

4. Baking Soda

Put a tablespoon of baking soda into a bowl and mix it with enough water to make a paste. Dunk your toothbrush into the paste to cover the bristles. Brush your teeth with the paste for two minutes to whiten your teeth. You’ll want to rinse your mouth well; baking soda can eat the enamel of your teeth if it rests for too long.

5. Lemon Juice

Once a week, mix a glass of half lemon juice and half water. Rinse with the solution to lighten the stains on your teeth. Like baking soda, lemon juice can erode your teeth. Use the mixture no more than once per week and be sure to rinse well.

While nothing will whiten your teeth like the professional services offered by your Billings, MT dentist, these home remedies are effective enough for most people. Experiment with the home remedies above and see which you prefer. In a few months time, you’ll have teeth that you’re happy to show off.
