Five Killed, 25 Injured in Peshawar Airport Rocket Attacks

At least three people and 40 others injured were killed in Peshawar on Saturday night when three rockets, fired from unknown location, hit the Bacha Khan International Airport.

An emergency has been declared at the airport which was sealed after the attack. There are also reports of heavy exchange of gunfire inside the airport.

“An emergency has been declared in the hospital and all the surgeons have been called,” said Umar Ayub, chief executive of the Khyber Teaching Hospital Peshawar. “All of them suffered bullet injuries and some of the injured are in critical condition.”

The army has cordoned of the area after the incident and launched an operation to ascertain if any militants had entered the airport. The rescue teams are not allowed to enter the airport.

The injured include children, women and senior citizens all of whom are civilians. Several vehicles have also been destroyed in the attack. Several walls of the airport have been collapsed due to the strikes.

The clouds of smoke and fire flames was seen in the area after the strikes.

The injured have been shifted to hospitals. Four injured are said to be in critical condition and the death toll is likely to climb.

The incident has spread fear among the local residents as they are castled into their homes.

No group has claimed the responsibility of the attack so far.
