Five Galle Face Activists Found Hiding in Nuwara-Eliya

Police arrested five activists connected to the ‘Aragalaya’ from a house in Nuwara-Eliya.

The group have confessed that they went into hiding at a friend’s house in Nuwara-Eliya for fear of being arrested for breaking into and damaging the President’s House and the Presidential Secretariat.

They were staying at a house in Bonasta estate in Kalukelle, Nuwara-Eliya.

A warrant had been issued by the Nuwara-Eliya Court against a young man who resides in that house in connection with an assault.

When a team of officers from Nuwara-Eliya Police station went there to execute the warrant they had seen several youth behaving suspiciously.

When the police interrogated they had confessed they were a group of people from the ‘Aragalaya’. When they were questioned at length, they had confessed that they had stayed at Galle Face for some time.

They had also been in the group that entered the President’s House. All four have been arrested by Nuwara-Eliya Police on suspicion. Apart from the Nuwara-Eliya resident the other three have been identified as residents of Bingiriya, Gothatuwa and Kalutara.

Investigations have shown that there are no previous criminal records regarding these people. police said that information has been sent to Colombo regarding them.
