Let’s talk about sharks. There are big sharks.

Megalodon

The standard Megalodon needs the Megalodon Hunt to happen in order to be found. It is part of the Exotic rarity group in the Ancient Isles Bestiary. It’s kind of like how the other shark hunts work! But there are some things that are different.

  • Location: This Megalodon only shows up in the Ancient Isles and likes Shark Head food.
  • Bait: Shark Head bait is a Mythical bait type, making it hard to obtain. You can get it by opening Quality Bait Crates.
  • Spawn Conditions: Sharks don’t change how often they spawn based on weather, season, or time of day.
  • Catch Indicator: When you catch an Exotic, a rainbow exclamation point shows up above your head.
  • Progress Loss Stat: The normal Megalodon has a Progress Loss stat of 80%.

Ancient Megalodon

The Ancient Megalodon seems to be getting a bad name. The Aurora Borealis event must be live, which is different from the standard version. On some servers, this can happen at random, or a player can use an Aurora Totem, which costs 500,000 coins in the Brine Pools, to trigger it.

  • Event Requirements: This type of Megalodon also requires the Megalodon Hunt event to occur.
  • Strategy Tip: Wait until the hunt starts before using an Aurora Totem. It’s nearly impossible to align both the Aurora Borealis and the Megalodon Hunt events simultaneously, so this method is more efficient.

Phantom Megalodon

We already have a guide on how to get the Phantom Megalodon, so here’s a quick summary:

  • Event Timing: The Megalodon Hunt event must coincide with this shark’s appearance.
  • Availability: The Phantom Megalodon is only available on weekends—specifically Saturday and Sunday.
  • Difficulty: Megalodon Hunts are rare, making this one of the hardest fish to catch.

The Event for the Megalodon Hunt

The Megalodon Hunt event lasts for two to five minutes, so you need to move quickly. You’ll know it’s time to search the ocean for the shark when the game alerts you with a sound effect and on-screen text. Since it’s quite large, it’s easy to spot while sailing around near the Ancient Isles.

  • Chance of Event: There is a 5% chance the Megalodon Hunt will start each in-game day.
  • Duration: The event is brief, so keep your attention on the game.
  • Time-Saving Tip: Use Sundial Totems to reset the in-game day and increase your chances of triggering the event faster.

Good luck catching the mighty Megalodon!
