First Look: Gas Street Social

By Thefoodiecoupleblog

Gas St Social, the latest venture from the Shaker Group has very recently opened its doors to their new and very lovely bar and restaurant in the Mailbox. I was lucky enough to be invited down to their press meal to have a chat to the owner, meet some of the team, take a look around, and mostly importantly – try the food and drink! I really liked the decor of the place – lots of wood and slate gray tones, a mix of tables and booths and a large emphasis on sharing and being social. Obviously there is a big emphasis on cocktails, being somewhat their signature and I really like the look of their menu; classics and some lovely and unusual sounding originals. I tried two during the evening, one alcoholic and one ‘mock’. Both were beautiful and delicious. My first was a Cox Grave Spinner – made with spiced mango lime and rum and the Social Swizzle mocktail was a take on the mojito but with elderflower.

For the press dinner we tried a platter of their charcuterie which I couldn’t fault at all and then a more traditional 3 course meal, but their emphasis is really on their ‘social plates’. I tried the Scallops with Lemon Butter and Capers, the Tiddenham Duck Breast with 12 spice sauce and a Pistachio Creme Brulée. My scallops were perfectly cooked, and the sauce with my duck was beautiful too.

Other things on offer included Beetroot Tart with Goats Cheese and Salted Caramel, Slow Cooked Ox Cheek with Cider & Sage and much more.

I really loved the cocktails, concept and the venue, and my first taste of the food was very promising. I hope to go back and try more very soon!
