“As Firefox OS continues its expansion into key growth markets such as Asia, Central and Latin America, it has emerged out of the ‘other’ category as one of the top platforms for the global smartphone industry,” says Neil Mawston, Executive Director of Strategy Analytics.

The company announced the news while releasing three new ultra-affordable smartphones in India and Bangladesh. Mozilla is aiming for developing countries with their Firefox OS phones and it has now made its way in to Central America through Telefónica.
“The expansion of Firefox OS into a brand new category of smartphones, along with the continued growth of new form factors holds great promise for the adoption of open Web technology and for enabling millions more people to access the Web,” said Li Gong, President of Mozilla.
Mozilla’s head, Li Gong is confident they can make a change in the smartphone market with its line of cheap and affordable, Firefox OS-powered devices. However, with Google also launching Android One devices with higher specs at an affordable rate will probably make Mozilla’s mission a little bit harder.
