Fiona Apple, the Intelligence, Zulu Winter [week's Top Releases]

This may be a slow week for releases in terms of volume, but there are still some gems. And by gems, of course, we mean the long awaited release of perhaps the most anticipated record of the year — Fiona Apple’s The Idler Wheel. Granted, Ms. Apple may be taking up all the spotlight, but she is only one of the releases that we are looking forward to this week.

We’ve certainly been waiting a long time for this album — a really, really long time. Guess what, though, all indications thus far point to The Idler Wheel as being one of the best releases of the year. Have you listened to “Every Single Night” yet, because it’s amazing. We’re all expecting another masterpiece form Fiona Apple, and we couldn’t be more excited to end the waiting period.

Techno Tuesday – The Intelligence // Buy

Touting the kind of lo-fi, garage rock that made Thee Oh Sees and Ty Segall famous, not to mention the musical chops to hang with both groups, this Seattle-based lo-fi band should be getting way more attention. The Intelligence’s fuzzed out sound is perfect for summer, and all the beachy drunkenness that goes with it.

We Should Be Swimming – Zulu Winter // Buy

Silver Tongue – Zulu Winter // Buy

UK’s Zulu Winter (@zuluwinter) released their debut album this week after gaining a lot of attention with their two singles out already. Their unique mixture of “tribal pop” and epic, sweeping indie rock make them just different enough to be interesting but still nice music when all you want is something fun.

Fireworks of the Sea – White Arrows // Buy

If there’s one common theme for the summer, it’s tribal electronic dance pop. This LA band, White Arrows (@whitearrows), is riding the wave of infectious beats with their debut record, which features a brilliant blend of influences and instruments that make it absolutely impossible not to dance. Dry Land Is Not A Myth, though, also promises to be an eclectic mix of more than just danceable beats.
