Even though I'd already signed the previous version of this new painting, I saw things that I didn't like about it. So I began to work on it again.
In my experience, I'm rarely able to make a few changes on a painting and stop, unless they are very minor. Once I begin, I will end up with a new painting and the old one will be gone forever.
Right now I'm looking at a photo of the old version (on my computer screen) and the new. I realize the old version had a nice spontaneity and looseness that I've lost in the new one. That is the continuous struggle I have in my studio--freedom versus control.
Balancing the two is my ongoing dance.
I can't even call this one the "green and white" painting any more. Prussian blue has taken over.
