FiLIP: A Smartwatch/ Tracking Device for Kids

Everyone’s using smartphones these days, even little 5-year-old kids. So, why not make them a smartwatch to make things easier? The company FiLIP has already thought about that and they have a solution.

FiLIP smartwatch is now all set to hit retail stores in this holiday season, after a long three-year development process. This gadget is all about simplicity and getting along with kids younger than 11-years of age. Some may even say it’s a version of Galaxy Gear for kids.

The device gives parents full control over the the wearer, as it comes with an app that allows parents to find the current location of their kids, or call and message to contact them on FiLIP smartwatch.  This is more like a first step toward introducing wearable technology for kids.

The two-button watch comes in four kid-friendly color options including red, blue, yellow and green. The pricing hasn’t been announced yet, however it’s expected to cost about $200.

I suppose a smartwatch is more suitable for kids to communicate with their parents easily. Although the fact that it acts as a tracking device makes this device more of an electronic leash for children. Which I find it to be highly inappropriate. I can understand trying to protect children and keep them safe. But, tracking their every moves is not the right way.
