Feeling Secure

By Lifecoachlindaluke @coachlindaluke

When I was a young single mother I was terrified that I would not be able to support my son and I.  In order to create a sense of safety I found a job as a dental receptionist and made myself indispensable.  I convinced myself that I had the security I craved.  It was only after working there for many years that I realized it was all an illusion.

The truth was:

  • My employer could have become disabled, ill, or sold the practice at any time.
  • I had no health benefits or 401k, resulting in more financial risk.
  • The lack of opportunities for growth and increased income kept me small.

My fear kept me stuck in a situation that resulted in exactly what I was trying to avoid.

Security is an illusion.  The real power lies in learning to trust yourself to be able to handle whatever comes your way.  Instead of making choices out of fear, let your heart guide you.  It will know which path is best for you and never try to keep you small.  You will grow and learn, developing your confidence and intuition along the way.  In the end you will probably feel more secure than if you took the path that seemed safe.

Your Turn: Where in your life are you buying into the illusion of security?
