Celebrate Dog Biscuit Day: Peanut butter and jam dog treat recipe

Hazel is one spoiled little (big) mountain dog. It's hard to resist her puppy dog eyes and crooked nose. For National Dog Biscuit Day I tried my hand at baking Hazel some homemade dog treats. Hazel gave me the idea when she wouldn't stop staring at me as I ate a peanut butter and jam sandwich. Hazel's been a good girl, she deserves her own PB & J.

I stocked up on my favorite organic, non-GMO Crofters Jamsome peanut butter and got to baking while Hazel watched intently. I love Crofters Organic because it's an Ontario brand that is dedicated to the best nutrition, product transparency, and managing its environmental impact. Check out my recipe and you can celebrate National Dog Biscuit Day too!

Peanut butter and jam dog treat recipe

You will need:

  • 2 mixing bowls
  • Measuring cup
  • Parchment paper
  • Cookie sheet
  • Cookie-cutter (optional)

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/2 cup Crofters strawberry jam
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly beat 2 eggs.
  • Line cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  • Mix water and eggs into the flour.
  • Mix with hands until dough is firm. Fold jam into the dough.
  •  Warm peanut butter in the microwave. Fold peanut butter into the dough.

Once the peanut butter and jam are folded in the dough it becomes very sticky. If you would like to use a cookie-cutter, use a lot of flour and roll with a rolling pin. Or you can spoon out onto a cookie sheet. Haze didn't seem to mind either way.

Bake for 15-20 minutes (depending on thickness) or until the center is cooked through. Cool before feeding, no matter how much your dog begs. It's important to make sure your peanut butter does not contain artificial sweeteners like xylitol that are toxic to dogs.

Hazel loved her treats and I'm sure your dog will too. Did you try this recipe? Send me photos! Email pawsforreaction@live.ca and I'll share your treat photos!
