In this new abstract painting on paper, I began with burnt sienna, adding burnt umber, raw umber, and raw sienna. I painted the background in unbleached titanium, brushing in other colors for texture and highlights. I brushed spots of cadmium red light and orange into the top of the brown sections, trying to give a sense of natural rising toward the light.
Next, I blended prussian blue into the lighter background, working quickly while the paint was wet. My last step was to draw lines with yellow oxide and raw umber to create a sense of movement and delineation.
