A BRIEF HISTORY
Badger Basket has been in business for more than a century; however, it was not always known by that name. The company began as a veneer plant and cheese box manufacturer called Edgar Veneer & Mfg. Company located in Edgar, Wisconsin. In 1912, the plant was sold to brothers Albert and Eugene Erny, and by 1918, the company had began producing veneer-covered, woven baskets and changed the name to Edgar Basket & Manufacturing Company. They were very successful, and one basket was sent to Chicago for the World's Fair!
Later in 1939, Erny sold the company to Harry Henrichs. The name changed again to Henrichs Box Company. The Henrichs only owned the company for five years when Elenor and William Erny bought the company back! They renamed the company again, calling it the Standard Container Company. They also trademarked the name Badger Basket Company, because baskets were still their primary business. Throughout the 1950's, they continued to make baskets until a horrible accident occurred!
The plant burned to the ground in 1959. There was just a tiny boiler and maintenance that survived. In early 1960, the Ernys rebuilt a one-story plant and resumed production. Unfortunately, disaster struck again in 1966 with a fire burning the center of the plant. Thankfully, the damage was so minor they were able to continue production within just a couple of weeks.

William Erny's daughter, Janet, currently owns the plant. They have expanded their line to include hampers, children's furniture, and doll furniture items. In 1986, Badger Basket did face a small recall due to some of their bassinets' legs collapsing. They quickly set up a repair program to prevent any more injuries from occurring when the issue was found. You can read the full announcement here.

The team is made up of kids from 2nd to 5th grade. They won the Edgar Little League Tournament in the Minor League category back in August 2003. The team is coached by a member of their office staff.
