Living life in the fast lane isn’t always the best way to go, in fact, it will surely make you lose your mind. We know that, thanks to the 1976 Eagles song. In today’s fast-paced world, it seems more important than ever to take a minute for yourself. Stop. Take a breath and slow down. Smell the roses, and perhaps, even take the scenic route. It’s a familiar message verbalized to indie pop fans of Scenic Route to Alaska in their newest single, “Slow Down.”
Taken off of their new, untitled LP (to be released 2018), “Slow Down” is about struggling to maintain balance while constantly moving. Some people only dream of finding a good job, and settling down. To others, that version of life sounds absolutely disastrous. Lead vocals suggests the band isn’t ready for it – slowing down, that is. Fans of Kings of Leon guitars will enjoy this track, as well as the folksy indie fans of Bon Iver, and City and Colour.
Give it up, or get a job. Find a girl, a steady love. I don’t think it’s enough. I don’t think I’m ready for it. Everybody’s telling me to stop, take a breath and slow down.
Produced, engineered and mixed by Howard Redekopp (Tegan & Sara, The Whale, Mother Mother), “Slow Down” isn’t this Edmonton-based trio’s first catchy single. The band has been performing together since they were teenagers.
They’ve shared stages with Hey Rosetta!, Said the Whale and Born Ruffians. Even if settling down isn’t in the cards just yet, let’s hope there’s no slowing down of Scenic Route to Alaska’s fiery indie pop sounds. We are ready for that full-length album release – sooner rather than later.
If you’re sick of the usual scenery on mainstream music radio, perhaps it’s time you skip the short cuts, and reroute. Take the Scenic Route and “Slow Down” for a nice change of pace.
