Family Fun Time @ Hyatt Regency, Gurgaon

It’s the fag end of 2016 and it will soon be 2017. As a family we never go out on the New Year eve nut always spend our time together chatting, reflecting on the year gone by and making plans for the upcoming year in the comfort of our home. It is ‘us’ time. However this year I have to be away for on the New Year eve for some official work. We decide to spend the last but one day of 2016 together at some place where we hear no door-bell, there is no work for us and no books for kids as well. A place that is away from the hustle bustle still within half an hour reach is Hyatt Regency, Gurgaon and we headed there after our breakfast at home.

Here is our experience of various facilities availed by us:

Check-in: This is one of the smoothest check-in I have seen. As soon as we reached the reception and asked for booking in our name, a person took out the keys and came along with us for the check-in that was done within the room itself. While I have availed of room check-in in other hotels too, but they mostly took our I-card for photocopy. Here they had a small scanner through which the id was immediately scanned and the id returned.

Rooms: The plush interiors of our big suit accompanied with Jacuzzi made us comfortable, while our kids were happy in the adjoining room. It would have been an icing on the cake if the room and the suit had an interconnection, but I could see happiness on my children face when they realised that they would get complete freedom and privacy of their own room.

Food: I have eaten at Hyatt Regency many a times, but this is the first time I am staying there as a guest. The lunch only has ala-carte while dinner has a buffet option too. I enjoyed my sushi platter while my vegetarian family seemed happy with the Indian and Chinese dishes they ordered. Some dishes really stood out. I have never had any better tofu. This stir fried tofu with orange reduction honey glaze is to die for. Even the pide that they do is worth an order every time. However highlight of our meal was the breakfast. Instead of the usual fresh eggs-toast etc that I like, someone suggested we order from the south Indian selection. The appam with egg curry was delicious. While appam is made well almost at most five star properties, I have rarely seen such creamy and tasty egg curry. They complimented each other so well. The dosa was seemingly cooked in desi ghee, that I could gather from the glazing. Filled with chopped onion and podi, we couldn’t stop at one bite.

Spa: The hotel has 3 well appointed rooms on the ground floor for spa (Though no couple spa room). I went for the hot stone massage while my wife went for deep tissue massage. The spa treatment for me is the modern take on ayurvedic potli massage where bundle of cloth dipped in hot oil is used to massage the paining area. Similarly here the hot lava stone is used to treat the affected area. The masseur knew his job. Unlike most other massages this starts from the stomach instead of the legs.  A steam bath post that 60-minutes massage relaxed us and made us fresh for the dinner.

Kids Room/Swimming pool etc: Beside other facilities, my kids kept enjoying in the kids room. They love to swim too, but it wasn’t possible in end December Delhi winters.

Service: On a family experience, what becomes important is the service. My kids left their electronic key every time they came out of the room. However it was smilingly made new. Another thing worth mentioning is the involvement of their top management in the day to day operation. I could see the hotel’s General Manager on round at the hotel. He made it a point to smile at all guests and check if everything is going fine. And when he came to check with us, he not only sat with us for a while but also grabbed few bites on our insistence. Do chat up with him if you get an opportunity, he has many interesting anecdotes up his sleeve.

Overall, this was a short and sweet small holiday that we would love to repeat. If you are looking for a holiday that is not too far from the city and you can spend more time with the family…this is a good option to check out.
