Facebook Campus Launched For College Students In The USA

Social media giant Facebook today introduced a dedicated " Facebook Campus " section in the main app. Students will need their email credentials (.edu credentials) to log into the Facebook campus.

The app is being tested at 30 major universities across the United States. People on the edge observed that Harvard is not on the list. This will not allow students to interact between colleges, but will give them limited space to only interact with people in their schools.

A virtual campus

Facebook Campus uses school verified email credentials which makes it quite secure. It has a campus-only news feed, which will allow students to see other classmates, groups and other school-related activities. The flow will also allow students to create their own groups and events.

The profile will also be accompanied by a campus directory. Students on Facebook Campus will be able to easily find their classmates. Alumni will be allowed to stay, but Facebook will suggest they leave campus via a notification as the content will no longer be relevant. The section also includes real-time discussions, which can be moderated by admins.

There are new privacy guidelines for Facebook Campus. Activities on your campus profile will only be visible to students and your school pages. Discussions can be moderated, and admins can delete entire threads if they wish.

How to access the Facebook campus?

As of now, the feature is only available on the Facebook app. In addition, you must be a student of eligible universities to access the Facebook campus.

All you need to do is create a Campus profile with your email address and year of graduation. You can also add details like main classes, minors, and hometown, but they are optional.

Once your profile is ready, it will be a completely separate area from your main Facebook profile. Only people from your school will be able to communicate with you on a Campus profile. You can find groups, events and clubs in this space.
