‘Eyesores’ Removed for Pope’s Visit

By Linus

Residents of San Jose, Tacloban City get ready to relocate to Old Kawayan near San Juanico Bridge on the Leyte side. Their relocation is part of the Leyte government’s preparation for the visit of Pope Francis in January, 2015. Kawayan is one of the barangays in the outlying area of Leyte town.

These ‘Eyesores’are the same people who took the brunt of typhoon "Haiyan" or Yolanda  in November last year, losing their homes, livelihood and loved ones to the tide. While they lived to tell their harrow- ing tale, the survivors have been strug- gling to get back on their feet and are still mending their shattered psyche.

This  difficulty  confronting residents-turned-informal settlers in Barangay 88, San Jose here whose living condition in the eyes of government officials is too unsightly for the much awaited visit of Pope Francis on January 17, 2015. MB
