Two persons planning to sell an ancient sword said to have been used by King Walagamba for Rs.6 million was arrested by the officers of the Walana Anti-Corruption Unit.

The sword had been dug up from a beneath a rock inside the forest reserve in Badulla, Madolsima by a group of people including the two suspects.

Investigations have revealed that the treasure thieves who entered the reserve about three weeks ago, cracked the rock using heavy equipment and dug out treasures including the sword.

It has also been found that a group of twelve people, were involved in the treasure hunt. In addition to this sword, it has been revealed from the questioning of the suspects that that the group had found ancients statues, gold jewelry and gems. The suspects have said during questioning that they had located the treasure after finding some ancient scripts and according to them these treasures had been buried during the reign of King Walagamba.

The two suspects have said the group had shared the items found among them.

The police have launched a raid to apprehend the other suspects and find the treasures they unearthed.
