MY REVIEW:
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Exsanguinate by Killion Slade is December 2013 Spirit release, a division of Draconian publishing. I was provided a copy of this book by the authors in exchange for an honest review.
I think most people are familiar with the Halloween festivals in theme parks, such as Six Flags. Haunted houses are the biggest draw. Cheyenne O'Cuinn, is a software gaming developer. She and her sisters plan on going to the theme park haunted house. The terror for Cheyenne and her sisters is very real when they are attacked viciously. Cheyenne survives the attack, but her sisters are missing. When Cheyenne recovers enough to leave the hospital it seems that she didn't get out the attack unscathed after all. Now, she finds she must deal with what has happened to her, find her sisters, and deal with a love affair that has mainly taken place online in a role playing game, which is also where she finds clues to her sister's whereabouts and why they were kidnapped.
It seems there is a plot among vampires to mate with humans to form a species named dhampirs. This may be the reason her sisters have been taken... to become breeders.
In a race against time, Cheyenne will encounter vampires, werewolves, and dragons. But, who will she be able to trust?
I haven't read an Urban Fantasy novel in awhile. When it comes to this genre, I can be hard to please, so this one was good choice. A very imaginative novel unlike anything I have read previously. I loved the character of Cheyenne. She is strong but fragile, loyal and tenacious, and smart.
I also liked the clues and strategy being included in the online role playing game. This is really clever and not as far fetched as you may think. Gamers of course know this, but some readers may not realize just how vivid these games are and how many people are involved. Information could easily be communicated to key people through the game and people have done this, some who were using the game for this purpose entirely.
The horror being enslaved for the purpose of creating a vicious race to become warmongers is terrifying.
The romance is fragile. Cheyenne discovers her long time online lover has a pretty big secret. Now, however, there could be hope for them, but can he be trusted?
The only problem I had with the book was that it ended. I can't wait for the next book! This book will appeal to those that enjoy horror novels, but mostly to the Urban Fantasy fans out there.
This one is an A+
I AM SO EXCITED TO HAVE KILLON SLADE ON MY BLOG TODAY!!! WELCOME TO THE BOOK REVIEW AND THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME OUT TO VISIT WITH US TODAY!
Hi Julie! Thank you very much for having us today. It is a great honor to be with you and your readers today.
Answer: It’s interesting enough. There isn’t a scene or a character that we do not discuss, storyboard, or brainstorm upon. The Mrs. Slade of the equation puts the words down on the paper, while Mr. Slade is primarily in editing, formatting, and printing. Sometimes it can be a challenge, but often times any issues resolve very quick and we’re off working on the next scene. We respect one another to listen to the concerns in concerns so we can create the best reader experience possible. We also work together and virtually commute to our day jobs, so we spend a lot of time together.
2) Are either of you online "Gamers"?
Answer: Believe it or not – we enjoy gaming, but lately [the past few years] we have not had much opportunity to enjoy it as we would like. We enjoy watching our kids game and listen to their experiences. Maybe one day when we’re not writing we’ll have a bit more time to game again.
3) Do you think that one day books will become interactive?
Answer: Yes! We are already doing that with our book series. Bringing the Second Screen to books to keep people of all ages interested in reading. So often our lives are built into a smartphone now and many people are surfing the web as they interact with television. We wanted to bring that experience to a book and that is why we have the interactive scenes which can either be clicked on with a link from the ebook versions, or readers can scan the QR codes in the print edition of the book to find special features, secret chapters, character dossiers, fan art, and much much more.
4) Do read other genres besides Urban Fantasy? If so what do you like read?
Answer: Oh yes we read many genres. I primarily enjoy Horror and Dystopian stories, whereas Mr. Slade enjoys High Fantasy & Sorcery. We both enjoy Science Fiction and Comedy. One of my favorites authors to read is Molly Harper – she has such a wonderful way of bringing humor into her stories which is so down to earth and relatable.
5) Coffee or Tea? Beer or Wine? Dogs or Cats? Physical books or e books?
Answer: All of the Above! We vacillate between coffee and tea mornings. He truly enjoys very dark beer and we both love wine. We even make our own from time to time. We have both dogs and cats. In fact, one of the characters in Exsanguinate, Beano the Boxer puppy, is a direct creation from our beloved Beano. However, our Beano is a she, but it still just as loved by us as much as Cheyenne loves hers big fella.
6) Where can readers contact you?Answer: We’re all over the place. Stop by we’d love to hear from you and connect!

Answer: We are currently in production on the Audiobook version for Exsanguinate while in tandem we are writing and editing Revenant – Book Two of the World of Blood Series – Anticipated Release Date December 2014.
8) Which are your favorites- Vampires, Werewolves or Dragons?
Answer: That’s a tough question. We have so many paranormal creatures in our books from ship destroying Krakens to silver mining dwarves. We like to go beyond the mainstream supernaturals, but if we had to choose it would be the dragons!
9) When you have spare time what do you enjoy doing?
Answer: Spare time? Not quite sure I understand that concept. Feelings of guilty indulgence arrive when I think there is spare time ;)
10) Do you have a favorite quote you would like to share?
Answer: I have two - "Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." ― Oscar Wilde
