Exploring Old Harry Rocks

By Threadandbutter @threadandbutter

It's only taken three years of living in Dorset, but I have finally visited Old Harry Rocks. One Saturday morning we packed our cameras and warm coats and headed off to Purbeck. It turned out to be more of an adventure than we originally bargained for as we took a wrong turn, came across the incredible site of Corfe Castle, got completely lost on the way home and nearly ended up getting on a car ferry with no money. However, it all added to the fun of it though.
We followed this National Trust walking route which starts and ends with the Bankes Arms Pub. It was the perfect finish to a breezy day as we were greeted by a roaring open fire and lots of fluffy dogs to pet. We opted for a glass of red and a bottle of locally brewed cider whilst we looked back at our photographs and laughed at all the mishaps like me nearly falling off the cliff.
I can't wait to get back out there again in the summer as the views are absolutely breath taking. If you are coming to visit me soon, the likelihood is I will probably take you here.
My advice:
- Take warm clothes as it can be incredibly windy up there- Wear grippy shoes that you don't mind getting muddy- Allow enough time to visit the pub afterwards- Take a camera!
Get out there and see what your locality has to offer, you may be pleasantly surprised.
