Experience pura vida - Costa Rica is open

Costa Rica is one of the great destinations in the world - it has so much to offer, from volcanoes to the rainforest, from wildlife to snorkeling, from whitewater rafting to zipline, and the best eco-friendly accommodation. luxury to relax.

Like many parts of the world, Costa Rica has closed its borders to visitors, but the good news is that it is now open to travelers from the UK and the EU, Canada, as well as US residents of the United States. Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Virginia and Washington, DC

Additionally, starting September 15, Americans with valid state IDs for Colorado, Massachusetts, or Pennsylvania will also be allowed entry under the new rules.

Costa Rica appears to be the top destination for Americans to travel to based on their country of origin, and the tourist board says the list of permitted regions is "periodically revised."

All visitors, regardless of their country or state of origin, will be required to have a negative coronavirus test result acquired within 72 hours before their flight. Travelers will also need to have proof of medical insurance and complete an online health form, according to a statement from the Costa Rica Tourist Board.

Costa Rica is nearing the end of its rainy season, so it's green and lush, and a great time to step inside before the crowds return.

Here's what to expect, including ways to make your time in Costa Rica rewarding and meaningful:

1. An underwater trip with a marine biologist;
2. Breathtaking private flights over volcanoes;

3. Engage in cultural immersion;
4. Look for a dolphin super pod and swim with thousands of them;
5. Collect scientific data on hammerhead sharks - measure, tag and document vital shark data; and
6. Prepare meals and feed monkeys, parrots and other wildlife at a rescue center

Here are some of my favorite eco-luxury lodges for you to enjoy:

  • El Silencio - with abseiling and zipline on site
  • Tabacon - complete with hot springs and views of the perfect cone-shaped Arenal Volcano (reopening November 13)
  • Arenas del Mar - on the beach and near the wildlife-rich Manuel Antonio National Park
