Evolution Taught Me to Be Small

By Stacylrust

Evolution taught me that if I’m small enough, quiet enough, pretty enough and sweet enough… a big, strong man will come along and protect me.

Nature has taught me that the sweeter and quieter I am, the safer I will be.

Every cell in my body screams at me to stay small, quiet, pretty, and sweet.

Being anything else feels dangerous. It feels risky. It feels vulnerable.

Evolution designed things that way.

But, nature is wrong. Evolution hasn’t quite caught up yet.

The way I see it, small isn’t safe.

Small isn’t better.

Small is just small.

So, I choose to ignore what evolution has taught me.

I’m going to be big, tall, strong, and loud.

I’m going to speak my mind.

I’m going to stand up.

I’m going to be brave.

And, sometimes that won’t be pretty.

It won’t be sweet, and it won’t be quiet.

It’s big and loud.

It’s honest.

Sometimes it’s ugly.

But, I’m fierce. I’m vicious when I need to be. I can protect myself. So, I’m going to live boldly. And, I’m going to thrive.

Because I’m smart, cunning, and adaptive.

I’m resourceful.

I’m clever.

I’m persuasive.

I’m a good negotiator.

I’m comfortable in an argument.

I’m quick.

I fight.

I persevere.

I admit when I’m wrong.

I bend when necessary.

I maneuver around obstacles.

I’m flexible.

I relate to others.

I understand people.

I’m respectful.

I’m kind.

I communicate effectively.

I contribute.

I am strong and powerful.

I am a winner. A victor. A champion.

I’m an advocate.

I’m a leader.

I’m an asset.

I’m important.

I am many things. Small is no longer one of them.
