Everything Everything – ‘Teletype’

Everything Everything have shared ‘Teletype’ – the latest single to be taken from forthcoming album ‘Raw Data Feel’ (out on 20 May). While the album uses responses from an AI programme that incorporates Beowulf, 4Chan posts, the teachings of Confucius and the terms and conditions of LinkedIn to develop lyrics, song titles and artwork, the new single is ‘A very direct song, straight from the heart, with a fresh new openness that we felt was a good scene-setting for the record’.

A glitch-filled opening makes way to brooding bass and 8-bit-inspired beats as Jonathan Higgs asks ‘Are you listening? Are you breathing?’ before then pondering ‘What if I sell my soul?’ and revealing how ‘It’s easy to lie when nothing makes sense anymore’. These observations about today’s always-on and ever-confusing world are then pushed to the back during the singalong chorus: ‘You don’t talk a lot but I like it’.
