“Yeah..so..um..wait a second…” is the opening line on “Cough Cough”, a track from the UK band Everything Everything. The sentiment expressed is actually a pretty accurate summation of how we felt upon first hearing their music — there may not be much new ground to be found in pop music, but this band seems to have found a patch and is flaunting it in full force.

Everything Everything’s new record, Arc, is a mixed bag of pop influences that claim inspiration from a wide spectrum spanning Destiny’s ChildNirvanaThe Beatles and, at times, something quite reminiscent of alt-J. Their sound is frenzied, but not rushed, because all the elements they rope in are extremely well done, making for a delicious and exciting listening experience. They’re definitely pop, but if forced to be more specific, I’d say they’re “trail mix pop” best enjoyed by the handful — all mixed together with no sorting and sifting needed.

While their sound is oftentimes frenetic, their latest single, “Duet”, is a lovely, pensive, string-based tune that showcases their song crafting ability at a slower pace. Taste a mouthful and you’ll see what I mean — delish. Check out both songs featured here to see what I mean about spanning the spectrum, then go get your hands on a copy of Arc. They’ve got it all, folks.
