Sure for the rest of the world this is the “Holiday season,” but for those of us in the world of weddings, it’s “engagement season.” Something like 40% of all engagements happen between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day. Whether you’re one of the 40% or not, there are a few reasons it’s a good thing to keep in mind as you start planning your wedding.

Your Facebook feed is probably filling up with adorable photos of loving couples and women showing off their rings. Your Pinterest account is starting to be stuffed with pictures of cakes and flower arrangements.  If you’re also recently engaged this flurry of activity may make you feel like you’re part of the “in crowd.” Or, it may make you feel like you’re falling hopelessly behind and your wedding won’t live up to everyone else’s. Relax, remember, it’s engagement season. Things will slow down. Don’t feel pressured to make decisions or share ideas until you’re ready.

Keep in mind as well that just because there are ads for engagement rings every five seconds doesn’t mean you have to get married, proposed, or accept. However, if you are planning on proposing and want to enlist the help of a professional proposal planner, or any professional entertainment you should look in to that sooner rather than later.

Speaking of wedding professionals, don’t feel like you need to rush out and start researching all your vendors the day after you get engaged. A lot of people are getting engaged right now, so vendors are busy fielding calls and setting up meetings. That doesn’t mean no one will be available when you’re ready to start planning. This is one of the busiest times of years for wedding professionals though. Even couples who have been engaged for a while often start serious planning after the New Year. A wedding planner may get up to 50% of his or her calls in January and February alone, so be flexible when scheduling appointments.

Remember, relax and enjoy this special time in your relationship, there’s no race to the altar.
