Cheesy pun? Check. Wearing pink? Check. It must be Wednesday! And on Wednesdays, do we not only wear pink, we celebrate engagement ring eye candy – luckily, RLJ just got in a nice new batch of fabbity fab round brilliant diamond engagement rings. They’re as varied in style as they are in price point, which is always good for the world’s most popular diamond cut. Round brilliant girls might be classic, but that doesn’t men they’re all traditionalists, or even that they all want a solitaire. Some ladies just like more diamonds, and that’s a trait I’ll never fault anyone for. Go big or go home. Unless your budget won’t let you go big, then go BLING (so, you know…add more, but smaller diamonds.) Clearly my afternoon lunch coma is setting in, so I’ll stop talking while we get ready to indulge in dessert – some round brilliant engagement ring eye candy.
Let’s get the party started with some solitaires. The first one features a gorgeous 1.27 carat round brilliant, with an H color grade & SI3 clarity grade. The softly tapered shanks juuuust before the mounting head, along with the four prongs, distinguish this ring from its Tiffany-style 6 prong counterpart, but still sticks to the fundamentals.
This solitaire, weighing in at 1.93 carats, takes a few liberties with the design. A wider and thicker white gold shank is decidedly more modern, and the double prongs enhance both the heft of the ring and the size of the diamond.
Another diamond, so similar in size at 1.92 carats, is an impressive I color and VS1 clarity. The mounting is totally contemporary, with stacked princess cuts and tapered baguettes embedded in the wide white gold band. The notched metal looks like it’s about to give way to a tension setting, but then combines with a 4 prong setting for a fresh take on this look.
Finally, because it’s not Designers & Diamonds if I don’t unabashedly play favorites, I’ve saved the best for last. While the diamond above wins in the color, clarity and carat grades, this stone holds its own in one of my favorite styles of settings! The main diamond is 1.19 carats, K color and SI1 in clarity. But the stunning antique-style floral mounting features an added .30 ctw of lovely marquise diamonds to the platinum vines. It’s a great re-creation of some of our most popular antique diamond engagement rings, and I don’t expect it to hang around our showcases for long before making its way on to the finger of a romantic bride somewhere!
